A 1890 built period house, once a prominent mansion in the village, located in the picturesque village of Pefki, Makry Gialos, overlooking the sea and the gorge of Pefki. Just 15 minute drive from the beach, the house is the ideal holiday retreat for those who seek inspiration, authenticity and tradition combined with modern amenities. Fully restored in 2016 with respect to local architecture.
The house has two floors. On the ground floor features a fully equipped kitchen-diner, a living room with fireplace, a bathroom, a utility area, a twin bedroom, a room serving as extra living space or third twin bedroom, a shaded balcony with sitting area and a shaded veranda with dining area. The first floor comprises an ensuite master bedroom with sitting area and a spacious terrace with splendid views to the gorge of Pefki and the Libyan sea. The upper floor terrace is the ideal spot to laze with cooling drinks at sunset, or relax under the starlit Cretan sky in the evening. The house is fully equipped with cooker, oven, dish washer, washing machine, WI FI, stereo, air-condition in the main bedrooms, fireplace and partial heating.
Pefki traditional village is a hideaway gem, which has preserved all the typical characteristics of traditional villages and architecture; small white and okra houses close one to another; cobbled little streets - or "kalderimia" - filled with bougainvilleas and flowers; scattered little churches hidden in luring trails amid olive groves and cypresses overlooking the Libyan Sea; a traditional“kafeneion” (cafe) – the typical area for social interaction for the village. Amphitheatrically set on the hills, 410 m above the sea level and 7 km distance from the coast, overlooking the gorge and the sea, the village is handily close to the restaurants, bars and shops of Makrygialos, the golden beaches, the trails and the attractions of south-eastern part of Crete, but at the same time it enjoys the tranquility and authenticity of the village life.
Eastern Crete is a world of natural wonders. Sea-sculptured coasts, fabulous sandy beaches and deep gorges are contrasted by palm-tree shaded coasts, rugged mountains, silvery olive groves and cedar-covered sandy islets. An impressive and magnetic landscape imprinted by each era of the island’s rich history and culture: ancient ruins of the glorious Minoan civilization, byzantine churches, Venetian fortresses, historic monasteries and the very unique Cretan customs and traditions.
